MOVING
GOODS

If the transportation of goods is not managed well, they can contribute significantly to congestion, noise, and air pollution. We aim to increase the efficiency of such movements and limit their negative impact on our community.

 SHAPE THE FUTURE OF TRAVEL

MAKING WATFORD A GREENER PLACE

As well as moving people, our transport network must move goods – such as stock for shops, online deliveries to people’s homes and materials for construction sites.

We are proposing a series of initiatives such as e-cargo bikes and parcel lockers to improve this.

IMPROVING THE TRANSPORTATION OF GOODS

1) Minimise the ways in which construction makes congestion worse, or how it blocks footways and cycle routes, by ensuring developers manage the impact of their construction sites.

2) Provide a greener alternative to vans by encouraging the use of E-cargo bikes by both delivery companies and our businesses for the final part of journeys and local deliveries.

3) Reduce the number of vehicles required to make deliveries by investigating options for freight consolidation centres.

4) Reduce the amount of time vehicles spend unloading and ensure large vehicles stay on the main roads as much as possible by examining how we can manage loading and the movement of lorries throughout the town, making best use of available bays.

5) Create convenient places to pick up packages and reduce the distance delivery vehicles must drive by working with partners to install parcel lockers at our key transport hubs.
